Welcome to the official website of our Project “Coupling insectivorous bats movements and landscape ecology in productive landscapes: Implications to the pest control service” (FONDECYT iniciación Nº 11180514).

Here you will find all the information about the goals of the project, technical team, results of our investigation and outreach activities we will perform.

Introduction

The farming intensification of the last decades has increased the homogenization of the agricultural landscapes, creating monoculture landscapes and the fragmentation of natural elements.
Wild fauna, while moving through the landscape, use the position of the structural elements to determine the direction of their movements. This way, those landscape elements act as markers, helping fauna locate their feeding areas, roosts, mating places, etc.

Bats are considered as sentinel species and bio indicators of the ecosystems health and that’s why they’re protected by both national and international laws. However, it is necessary to know how the configuration of the landscape elements affects their movement capacity within productive farming systems.
